Glazer Decision Expected in Two Weeks (go back to the homepage)

Manchester United fans face at least another fortnight before learning whether Malcolm Glazer intends to launch a formal bid for the club.

The Press Association understands Glazer’s advisors completed a two-week examination of United’s accounts today and will spend the next seven days analysing findings before setting up a meeting with the American. Although it is widely anticipated Glazer will make an £800million approach at some stage over the next month, the precise details of the bid still need to be formalised in the hope of earning a recommendation from United chief executive David Gill.

The Red Devils board previously indicated they were ’unlikely’ to back Glazer’s bid, even though they regard the 300p per share as a good deal on offer from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner.

Gill’s concerns surround Glazer’s ’ambitious’ business plan which he feels could cause long term damage to the club’s financial prospects.

Glazer has so far remained tight-lipped about his intentions, although it has been reported he intends to pledge cash to invest in Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad.

He will also have to take into account a potential loss of Champions League income this season as United stand on the brink of another early exit following their home loss to AC Milan on Wednesday.

Supporters voiced their opposition to Glazer prior to the game with a mass rally outside Old Trafford and have even threatened to launch a breakaway club if the 76-year-old succeeds in his aims.

Much, though, will depend on the reaction of major shareholders John Magnier and JP McManus to any Glazer bid.

The Irish horse-racing tycoons, who own a 28.9% stake in United, have insisted they remain long term investors and unless Glazer wins their agreement, he cannot complete a deal.
