Glazer keeps it in the family (go back to the homepage) Manchester - Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer appointed three more family members to the club's board on Sunday. Sons Kevin, 44, and Edward, 36, and daughter Darcie, 38, join the board as non-executive directors. Glazer's other three sons, Joel, Ave, and Bryan, were appointed when Glazer completed the takeover of the club in May 2005. United, one of the most valuable sports franchise in the world, insists the move will have no effect on the day-to-day running of business. Still, some will see the appointments as a sign of Glazer passing on responsibility for the club to his family, especially with his struggling health. The 78-year-old Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner is still recovering from the two strokes he suffered in April which left him with slurred speech and partial disability. Fans marched outside Old Trafford to protest Glazer's $1.47bn takeover of the club last spring. And when the three brothers visited shortly after their appointment, they needed a police escort from the stadium. |
